Trails Update During the 2003 City of Pearland budget process, $25,000 was budgeted in the Pearland Parks Department to begin the trails project in the Pine Hollow/Pine Hollow Estates Subdivision. The project was conceived by Ed Hersh, former City of Pearland Parks Director, in which approximately 2 miles of trails would be laid in several phases. The goal of the project was to eventually connect the Pine Hollow/Pine Hollow Estates Subdivision trails system to Rustic Oaks and on to Liberty Park. To show the Association’s full support for this project, the PHHA Trustees sent a letter of commitment to the City in January stating that the Association was willing to make a financial obligation of $35,000 for the first part of the trail system. On Monday, February 24, 2003, the Pearland City Council voted to table any expenditures or acquiring land to develop the Hike and Bike Trails in Pine Hollow/Pine Hollow Estates Subdivision. According to the Council, the timing of this project is not right. However, the Council does support this project if grant funding can be obtained. The Trustee Board is very disappointed that the Council has taken this position to delay this project. However, we cannot forget that the City Council did approve an expenditure of $200,000 for Pine Hollow Park in 2002. The Board will continue to work with the City to determine which grants could be obtained in order to fund this project. The Trustees are quite aware of the positive impacts that this improvement will have on Pearland residents. Therefore, the Association will continue to set aside funds to fully implement this project.
